The Lake District is one of the most naturally beautiful areas in the United Kingdom, and is home to a range of activities to participate in, for both indoor and outdoor-type of people. With the incredible scenery in this gorgeous part of Cumbria, including soaring mountains, dense forests and of course, glittering lakes, there are plenty of outdoor activities for tourists to get involved in to be amongst the stunning scenery, and with the charming villages, museums and historical houses, there are a lot of things to do indoors for tourists in the Lake District as well.

There are so many outdoor adventure activities in the Lake District that you will be completely spoilt for choice! Known for its incredible backdrops, Lakeland is a haven for those who love the great outdoors and like to be completely immersed in the gloriously fresh air that this region offers its visitors. Canoeing and kayaking on one of the lakes is a brilliant way to blend the natural setting with an adrenaline-pumping activity, and you can either choose to do this on one of the bigger lakes such as Windermere, which is the largest lake in England, or you can pick a smaller lake such as Derwent Water or Coniston.

Climbing, walking and trekking are also brilliant outdoor things to try, and hiking up the tallest mountain in England, Scafell Pike, is something you should definitely do when in the Lake District! The hill of Gummer’s How makes another wonderful walk and gives its climbers incredible panoramic views of Lakeland.

Other outdoor activities to try in the Lake District include quad biking, archery, sailing, horse riding, go-karting, cycling and many more. This region of the UK is simply perfect for lovers of the outdoor world and you will certainly not run out of things to do outside while on your holiday to the Lakes.

As well as outdoor activities, there are plenty of things to do indoors for those who prefer not to brave the possible rain and wind or those who like a mixture of indoor and outdoor things to do. A couple of cultural things to do indoors include Dove Cottage, William Wordsworth’s former home, and Hill Top, the setting for Beatrix Potter’s tales including Peter Rabbit.

A really fun indoor attraction to visit in the Lake District is The Puzzling Place which is in the village of Keswick. Fantastic to take children to, The Puzzling Place is located in the Museum Square and is a gallery-type of exhibition which fuses education with excitement, with lots of fun puzzles to complete and ponder over!

There are plenty of indoor swimming pools and cinema complexes to visit if you are looking for indoor activities in the Lake District, such as Rheged in Penrith, and you will not be short of things to do inside on your holiday to this beautiful area.
